Care instructions

Not sure how to care for your Mono & Lena home accessories? Here you can find care instructions according to type & material.

Jesmonite home accessories in general

  • You can dab (do not rub) your Jesmonite pieces with a soft damp cloth. In case of spillage, I recommend cleaning immediately using warm soapy water if needed and wiping dry afterwards. Please do not use a metal scourer or rough cloth as this will cause scratches on the surface.
  • Each piece is sealed for waterproofing, however, I do not advise submerging or leaving your Jesmonite pieces sitting in water.

Jesmonite candle holders

  • Carefully remove spilled wax from your candle holder as soon as the wax has hardened.
  • To remove dried spilled wax from your candle holder, put the holder in the freezer until the wax is frozen. This causes the wax to harden and shrink and come off more easily.
  • Use with a candle that is too narrow: something you can do if your candle is a little too narrow for the holder is to add some width to the bottom of the candle by wrapping a strip of aluminium foil around the candle until the candle fits in the holder perfectly.
  • Use with a candle that is too wide: if your candle is slightly too wide for the holder, you can carefully scrape some wax off your candle at the bottom with a knife. Scrape off only thin layers at a time to make sure your candle will not become too narrow for the holder.

Jesmonite planters

  • Planters are suitable for indoor & outdoor use.
  • You can water your plants straight in the pot, although I do not recommend this for the health of your plants and to prevent root rot due to your plant sitting in water for a long time.

Jesmonite smudge accessories & incense holders

  • To remove any burnt pieces or ashes, carefully empty the bowl/holder over a bin and, if needed, blow gently to help. Make sure not to rub to avoid marks setting in. After most or all of the ashes are removed, dab with a soft damp cloth to pick up any leftover particles.

Eye pillows

  • The cushion cover can be washed at 30°C with similar colours
  • Do not wash the inner cushion
  • Store your eye pillow in a cool dry place
  • You can gently squeeze the pillow to activate/enhance the natural fragrance of the lavender if you wish.

Beeswax candles

  • Trim the wick to 5 mm before first lighting and make sure it is straight to prevent the wick from leaning and only burning on one side of the candle.
  • Make sure your candle is secure and sits straight in its holder on a level surface to prevent hot melted wax from spilling or the candle from falling.
  • When first lighting your candle, allow the candle to burn long enough to melt all the way to the edge to prevent tunnelling.
  • Always re-trim the wick to 5 mm before re-lighting and remove any foreign materials or trimmings.
  • To remove spilled wax from your candle holder or tealight cup, put these in the freezer until the wax is frozen. This causes the wax to harden and shrink and come off easier. The longer you leave it in the freezer, the easier the wax will come off.
  • Use with a candle holder that is too wide: something you can do if your candle is a little too narrow for the holder is to add some width to the bottom of the candle by wrapping a strip of aluminium foil around the candle until the candle fits in the holder perfectly.
  • Use with a candle holder that is too narrow: if your candle is slightly too wide for the holder, you can carefully scrape some wax off your candle at the bottom with a knife. Scrape off only thin layers at a time to make sure your candle will not become too narrow for the holder.
  • Candle Safety: never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn candles out of reach of children and pets. Always leave at least 10cm between burning candles. Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire. Only burn this candle on a level heat resistant surface, do not place directly on glass or marble surfaces.

Rope incense

  • Store your rope incense in an airtight container, away from heat & sunlight as this can cause it to deteriorate quickly. If not used for a longer period of time, you can store the container in the fridge or freezer.
